Huron PD is a small, rural municipal police agency based around the generalist police
patrol function. The department currently consists of a Chief, three sergeants, ten full
time police officers, four public safety dispatchers, and one sworn special service officer
(animal control/code enforcement). Ten Qualified Level 1 reserve officers can work solo
patrol assignments. Newer reserve officers in training are assigned to and support full time
patrol officers in all of their daily duties. The department has three dual purpose canine
units.

The police fleet consists of three, unmarked, administrative units (chief's unit and staff
car), eight marked (black & white) patrol vehicles, one marked Animal Control/Code
Enforcement truck, one marked 4X4 patrol S.U.V., one combination mobile command post
/ DUI enforcement/ emergency power trailer & generator, and one transportation van.
The department maintains a Public Safty Answer Point (PSAP) communications center on
24/7 basis and a small temporary holding facility (THF). The departmant operates on
twelve hour, rotional shift deployments.
The HPD operates on a strong partnership philosophy with the community. Working
closely together with the residents, we are not afraid to deal with the challenges and
issues that confront our quality of life now and in the future. Despite fiscal limitations,
the HPD personnel work hard to be problem solvers and maintain a mindset of finding
solutions, not making excuses.
